A sound of its own
Mexa-country is what happens when Texas country and Latin music stop taking turns and start sharing a song. It's country at the root. The chords, the road, the ache, with corridos, cumbia, and norteño running through it. One foot in Austin, one in Mexico City.
It is not a novelty and it is not a translation. English carries the grit; Spanish carries the poetry. We don't subtitle one for the other, we trade lines, because that's how folks with feet in both sides actually talk.

Where it comes from

Same border, same soil
Frontera music and country grew up on the same border. Texas Tornados, Freddy Fender, Flaco Jiménez. The split was never as clean as the radio made it sound.

The crossover
The Mavericks' En Español proved a bilingual country record could be the real thing, not a stunt, and a new generation has been inching back toward the line ever since.

Coyote Mezcal builds it into a sound of its own. Country first, frontera in its blood, two languages in one song.

What is mexa-country?
Mexa-country is Texas country fused with Latin and frontera music. English grit and Spanish poetry traded line-for-line in the same song. It's the sound of Coyote Mezcal.
Is it country or regional Mexican?
Both, on purpose. The roots of frontera music and country run back to the same border, so Coyote Mezcal writes from both at once instead of picking a side.
Is it just country songs translated into Spanish?
No. The two languages carry different feelings. English the grit, Spanish the poetry. The band trades between them within a single song. Nothing is a translation.
Who plays mexa-country?
Coyote Mezcal: James (Texas), Vince (Mexico City), and Daher (Venezuela/CDMX): a country songwriter, a film-and-theater performer, and a producer who's worked with Grammy winners.
The genres were never that far apart. We just write them back together.
